About the role
Bring your disability experience – we welcome applications from our disability community! This role is an opportunity to bring your passion for helping disabled people in an authentically Pacific context which genuinely holds Pacific ways of being at its core.
As a Community Support Worker at Vaka Tautua, you'll walk alongside our disabled Pacific staff to support their work with disabled clients. This is important and rewarding work in building a good life for disabled people.
You will walk alongside our Peer Workers as they visit clients in their home, get to know them, and help them develop aspirational plans for their lives. This involves identifying issues which are preventing our disabled people from living a good life and connecting them to pathways that will help.
This is an important programme for Vaka Tautua because it helps grow the well-being and aspirations of our lived experience staff, as well as the potentially at-risk disabled Pacific people we work with. The successful applicant will primarily support our Peer Workers but may also help deliver services direct to Pacific disabled clients.
This role is about building great relationships with disabled people. You will listen, providing encouragement and development, and:
Create a space where disabled people feel heard, valued, and supported.
Support our Peer Workers to navigate their work with clients and ensure they deliver positive outcomes.
Promote respect for culture and diversity, ensuring Pacific perspectives are authentically recognized and valued.
Be part of a supportive, values-driven team that truly believes in the strength of lived experience.
This role is fulltime (40 hours per week). It offers significant training and development opportunities, plus the chance to work alongside an amazing team of Pacific staff who deliver different services across the Auckland Region. We will provide you with equipment such as a laptop and mobile, and you will have use of a pool vehicle.
About you
If you have a passion for providing life changing services for Pacific people, and ideally have a disability or good experience in advocating or navigating for someone with disability, this is your opportunity to make a positive difference in our communities. Ideally we are looking for someone who:
Has great knowledge and understanding of a Pacific culture.
Has experience working as a support worker in the community.
Can satisfy requirements for working with vulnerable adults including requirements in relation to police vetting.
I used to working with Microsoft Office products including email and Word.
Has a clean, full NZ Drivers Licence.
Has really good communication skills in English, and ideally a Pacific language.
